Each week the Illini in the NFL update will provide coverage on how former Fighting Illini football players fared during the previous week. Mikel Leshoure had a huge day with a hat trick of touchdowns, Whitney Mercilus had another sack and forced fumble and Pierre Thomas and Martez Wilson helped the Saints get a win on Monday Night Football.

Mikel Leshoure, RB, Detroit Lions - Leshoure had a career day, powering the Lions to a 31-14 win vs. the Jaguars. Leshoure rushed for 70 yards on 16 attempts and bull-rushed his way into the endzone for a career high 3 touchdowns, all in the second quarter. Watch Leshoure's hat trick

Whitney Mercilus, DE, Houston Texans - Mercilus enjoyed a three tackle day, including two solo tackles in the Texans 21-9 win over the Bills. Mercilus sealed the game in the fourth quarter when he sacked quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and forced a fumble. Watch Mercilus' Sack/Forced Fumble

Pierre Thomas, RB, New Orleans Saints - Thomas reeled in two catches for 26 yards in the Saints 28-13 win over the Eagles. In addition, Thomas was very effective on the ground in his limited carries, rushing for 44 yards in six attempts, including a long of 19 yards. Watch Thomas' 19-yard Run

Martez Wilson, LB, New Orleans Saints - Wilson produced a career high five tackles in the Saints 28-13 win vs. the Eagles and also recorded his second sack on the season, though he did receive a 15-yard roughing the passer penalty on the sack. Watch Wilson's Sack of Michael Vick

Josh Brent, DT, Dallas Cowboys - Brent played in Sunday's 19-13 loss to the Falcons. Brent tallied two tackles and a half-sack in the outing. Now has 14 tackles on the year. Watch Brent Help Sack Matt Ryan

Kelvin Hayden, CB, Chicago Bears - Picked up two tackles and recovered two fumbles in the Bears 51-20 win over the Titans. Has 11 tackles and three fumble recoveries on the year. Watch one of Hayden's Fumble Recoveries against the Titans  

Corey Liuget, DE, San Diego Chargers - Liuget recorded four tackles and one pass deflection in the Chargers 31-13 win over the Chiefs. Liuget now has 18 tackles, two sacks, one fumble recovery, and six pass deflections in his sophomore campaign.

Steve Weatherford, P, New York Giants - In the 24-20 loss to the Steelers, Weatherford punted five times for an average of 47.4 yards, with one downed inside the 20. Weatherford now has 33 punts on the season with a 46.1 average, including 12 inside the 20.

David Diehl, OT, New York Giants - Started in his first game since week 2 in the Giants 24-20 loss to the Steelers. New York's offensive line only succumbed to two sacks on the day.  

Alan Ball, CB, Houston Texans - Registered two solo tackles in the Texans 21-9 victory vs. the Bills. Ball now has nine tackles on the season to go with his two forced fumbles.

Jon Asamoah, OG, Kansas City Chiefs - Started in all eight games for the Chiefs on the offensive line. Protected Matt Cassel well in the 31-13 loss to the Chargers as the O-line only allowed one sack.

Arrelious Benn, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Benn returned two kickoffs with an average gain of 29 yards on the day. Been now has 13 returns on the year, totaling 306 yards, with a long return of 55 yards.  

Jeff Allen, OT, Kansas City Chiefs - Started in his fifth consecutive game for the Chiefs, but left Thursday night's game early after sustaining a concussion

Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers - Mendenhall was once again inactive due to his Achilles injury. However the Steelers beat the Giants 24-20.

Vontae Davis, CB, Indianapolis Colts - Inactive in Sunday's game due to left knee injury. Colts won 23-20 over the Dolphins.  

Jeff Cumberland, TE, New York Jets - Bye Week. Also still healing from dislocated right hand.

Brandon Lloyd, WR, New England Patriots - Bye Week

Brit Miller, FB, St. Louis Rams - Bye Week

Michael Hoomanawanui, TE, New England Patriots - Bye Week

Brandon Moore, OG, New York Jets - Bye Week

Tavon Wilson, FS, New England Patriots - Bye Week

AJ Jenkins, WR, San Francisco 49ers - Bye Week
