Hi Illini Gym Fans!
I hope everyone had a good weekend because we certainly did! This past weekend was our fall break where we had a few extra days off of practice, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It is a great little break during preseason where we can rest our bodies and catch up on school. The girls that live close enough even got to go home for a short break. For those of us that stayed on campus, we spent some time shopping, going to the movies, and watching other sporting events. There were other athletic events that people attended like the Illinois women's soccer game and women's volleyball game where we unfortunately lost to Nebraska in volleyball but got the win in soccer! Our football team had a weekend off so hopefully they are getting ready for our Homecoming game this weekend against Indiana.
In the gym this past week we have been starting to get into routine shape, concentrating on halves and progressing with the number of skills in each turn. This is the time for all of us to keep pushing each other and ourselves for that extra drive in each turn, especially during wind sprints, which is a cardio exercise that we use to train for our floor routines. It is very exciting to see how competitive line-ups are going to be this year and is motivating all of us for our intrasquad before Thanksgiving.
Since this weekend is Homecoming weekend there are a lot of exciting things going on. There is a parade this year that a few of us are attending. On two different floats, we will be representing the Women's Gymnastics Team, while getting everyone excited for the football game. For us dormers, we get to experience the band coming through the dining hall and playing some of our favorites songs, like the Alma mater and Oskee wow wow. It's great to see how dedicated our fans are!
