After a week of practices open to the public at Camp Rantoul, the Illini have returned to campus this week for the remainder of training camp, where all practices are closed. On Monday, the Illini had their second two-a-day of Training Camp with morning and afternoon sessions inside Memorial Stadium. On Tuesday, the team held its first full-contact scrimmage inside the stadium. Then on Wednesday, the Illini practiced on the grass fields just east of the stadium for the first time this season.
So far this week five Illini newcomers have been "de-striped", bringing the total thus far to 10. As we first wrote on Aug. 9, Illini newcomers have a single white stripe on their practice helmets. If the coaching staff deems them worthy, newcomers can earn their way to being "de-striped" through hard work during training camp. The action signifies that the player is no longer being considered a newcomer to the team. "De-stripers" are announced at the end of practice, with the newcomer's "big brother" (a veteran member of the team) assisting in the process.
Newcomers who have been "de-striped"
DB Tommy Davis - 8/9
RB Dami Ayoola - 8/10
LB Mike Svetina - 8/11 morning
WR Devin Church - 8/11 afternoon
LB Mason Monheim - 8/12
OL Joe Spencer - 8/13 morning
LB T.J. Neal - 8/13 morning
WR Justin Hardee - 8/13 evening
DB V'Angelo Bentley - 8/14

Season Tickets Going Out
We've heard from several people wondering when their 2012 season tickets will arrive. We can now say definitively that the answer is soon. The Athletics Ticket Office was buzzing today with workers stuffing envelopes to get thousands of tickets ready for shipment on Thursday. The shipping process will continue into early next week, meaning some will get their tickets as soon as this Saturday, while others may not receive theirs until late next week. In the past, tickets were shipped out earlier in August, but with the addition of bar codes to this year's ticket stock they took longer to produce.
