It's a very exciting time of year for us here in Champaign. This week we have been getting back into the swing of things with the start of season and the spring semester. We just wrapped up a long Christmas break as classes started again on Tuesday. Sadly, the underclassmen moved back into their dorm rooms on Sunday after living with us juniors and seniors in our apartments for a month. I'm going to miss having Gaby and Sunny around to watch movies with us, bake all sorts of goodies and laugh about the silliest things - our apartment is so much quieter without them! We may not have as much free time to spend together with classes back in session, but I'm looking forward to all of the time our team will get to spend together traveling this season.
Saturday we kicked off our season with a win at home against Minnesota. It felt great to be back at Huff competing again and to show everyone what we've been working for all pre season. We had some mistakes, but we bounced back well and broke some records already. Our team score Saturday of a 194.725 happened to be the highest season opener score in Illinois gymnastics' history, and we claimed our first win at a season opener since 2005.
We made the most of our three days of practice this week to make improvements for our competition against Iowa. We'll be hitting the road for our first away meet of the season on Friday afternoon! I'll have to make sure to have my Mad Libs and Apples to Apples ready to occupy our time on the bus ☺ The men's gymnastics team will also be traveling to Iowa. This is the first meet since I've been in college where the guys and girls will get to compete together outside of Huff Hall. Though our teams won't spend much time together while we are away, it will be an exciting and new experience to compete with them in a different arena. We'll be sure to keep you posted and let you know how it all goes.
Thanks for reading and GO ILLINI!!
