The season is coming up and everyone is getting very anxious. As Sarah Fiedler mentioned in our last journal entry, we had an intrasquad before winter break which went very well. We started off with a strong vault line up and finished up with some upbeat and fun floor routines. Although we had a few mistakes, we had some great routines and are all excited to keep improving. It was helpful to show our routines to an official judge where we could get an idea of how we are doing as a team. We all enjoyed going home for Christmas break where we could relax and spend time with family and friends.
It was great to go home for a little but now that we are back it is time to buckle down and get to work. Since it is winter break for everyone, campus is pretty dead, but we make it fun. We get to spend a lot of time with each other especially since us underclassmen moved into the apartments with the upperclassmen. Besides practice and rehab, we get a lot of team bonding time with all of the girls. Since we do not have to concentrate on classes, we spend our time relaxing and watch lots of movies.
This past Saturday, New Years Eve, we had our Holiday party where we got to watch the Bowl game, open white elephant gifts, and eat dinner. It was an exciting win for our football team, where we beat UCLA 20-14. During half time we got to open our white elephant gifts which if you have never done this they are "gag gifts". The first gift I chose were lottery tickets. However if you know this "game" you are allowed to steal gifts from other people. Amber See ended up stealing my gift only to find out the tickets were fake haha.
Everyone is very excited about the New Year and with less than two weeks until our first competition you can feel the excitement in the gym. We are thrilled to be hosting Minnesota at our first meet of the season at Huff on January 14th. So come out and show your support! We cannot wait!
