Welcome back to another fall golf season. We're only in the fifth week of a new season, but are off to a great start!
Our team seems a lot bigger this year as we welcomed two new players (Michelle Mayer and Pimploy Thirati) and a new assistant coach (Jackie Syzmoniak) to our Fighting Illini Family. The past few weeks we have spent time building our team chemistry while getting to know our new Illini family members.
Along with this we just returned from our first tournament in Fort Collins, Co., where we played in the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic hosted by Colorado State. We finished 2nd out of 19 teams and shattered the 54-hole school record by 15 strokes!! We had a team total of 875 and had two players, Hailey Koschmann and Ember Schuldt finish in the top 5. It was super exciting to get off to an awesome start.
Not only was it really fun to play great golf, but we were able to stay with host families which we always enjoy. The families we stayed with were great and we were able to have a nice dinner the day before tournament play began. At dinner we enjoyed delicious homemade lasagna, salads, and cobbler for dessert. Another fun thing about this tournament was getting to have homemade Walrus Ice Cream after play concluded.
We have a nice little break before we head down to Lexington, Ky., for our next event. We'll be spending the break time working on what we need to in order to have another great result in Kentucky!
We have 11 great players on the team and are all working towards the same goal so we know great things will happen this year. Keep checking back to hear more!
