Illini Go Live Under the Lights

IMG_20110810_201016.jpgThe Fighting Illini battled through the first two-a-day practice of Camp Rantoul on Wednesday but were aided by unseasonably cool temperatures that stayed below 80 degrees. There was a good deal of physical action during the 9-on-7 and team periods, including the first live tackling of training camp during the 9-on-7 session.

The largest fan turn-out of training camp came out to the evening practice and they were treated to a long completion from Nathan Scheelhaase to Darius Millines on one of the two-minute drives near the end of practice.

Don't forget, the first opportunity to see the 2011 Illini in an extended scrimmage setting is Saturday at the annual scrimmage at Rantoul Township High School. The event is free and starts at 6:30 p.m.

We've heard a lot of great responses about Episode 1 of the Camp Rantoul series, so be on the lookout for the second installment on Thursday. Creative specialist (and former wide receiver/holder) Frank Lenti has been hard at work on it the last few days and always does a great job with the series.

And in case you didn't hear, Mike Thomas was announced as the new athletic director at the University of Illinois today. He comes to Champaign-Urbana from the University of Cincinnati, where he has been the athletic director since 2005. It's great to have him on board and all of us look forward to working with him!
