Irwin Academic Services Center
The Irwin Academic Services Center, located on the corner of Fourth St. and E. Armory Ave., provides a comfortable environment where student-athletes can strive to achieve academic success. The center houses the academic staff, computer labs, tutors, study areas, and the Illini Life Skills program. It is a place where student-athletes work to achieve the high academic standards of the University of Illinois, while growing as individuals. Student-athletes spend time each week studying, working on group projects, typing papers, conducting research, and meeting with tutors to achieve their academic goals.
Mr. Irwin also owned and operated Lin-Drake Farms, where he raised throughbred horses. He was president of Irwin Properties, a Homewood development company; Irwin Jet Services and Irwin Enterprises.
In 1977, he and his wife, Anne Marie, established the Irwin Family Foundation. Both Richard and Anne Marie are deceased, but the Foundation continues to function as a philanthropic entity. The construction of the Irwin Academic Services Center - Division of Intercollegiate Athletics was made possible by a generous gift from the following trustees of the Irwin Family Foundation: George E. Allen, Donald G. King, Robert W. Lynch, and Jacqueline Irwin Pipher.
