    The Menu of Illini Life Skills Programming

    Coaches and student-athletes select at least one item from the menu to be served to their team each year. Depending on the popularity of a menu item, we can make it available to all of our student-athletes, a select group of student-athletes, or if you prefer a more intimate dining experience, we’ll cook it up special just for your team!

    Appetizers

    Goal Setting Gumbo – stir up this thick, hearty pot of goals to set yourself up for success in all of your academic and athletic endeavors.

    Baked Budget Bites – these crisp and delicious morsels will satisfy your checkbook and leave your taste buds craving for more!

    Technology Tortilla – a spicy concoction with just the right blend of today’s latest technological innovations including Power Point, Word, Multi Media and Internet use.

    Question and Answer Quesadillas - for those who have an appetite to learn more about the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics. Athletic Director Ron Guenther will update your team on the latest athletic department issues and answer your questions and concerns.

    Major Mexican Won Tons – you will want to get your hands on these crispy, baked to a golden brown, treats right away so that you can begin exploring all of your major and career options.


    Healthy Lunch Specials

    Peak Performance Pita – you’ll find this pocket sandwich stuffed with everything you need to know to put you on top of your game, including what food to eat to provide you with the most energy, and how far in advance of an event or practice should you try to eat. Information will also be provided on the benefits and barriers to using various performance-enhancing supplements.

    Eating Disorder Eggplant – this hearty serving of information will explore different types of eating disorders, their prevalence, and the factors that contribute to their development.

    Ready – Set – Cook – Grab your apron! You get to be the chef as we teach you how to prepare nutritious, delicious recipes.


    A la Carte Items

    Chef’s Choice – this menu choice will allow you to select your workshop topic! Our staff will be glad to serve it up to you piping hot on a silver platter.

    Team Community Service Salad – a flavorful blend of community service projects we can assist your team in arranging. Take advantage of these opportunities to give back to the community for their support.

    Stress Souffle’ – You will be relaxed and satisfied after you taste this light and airy dish. This workshop will provide you with information on how to reduce and manage the stress in your life.

    Communication Chowder – this creamy soup is chock-full of good advice on dealing with difficult people and provides the means for effective conflict resolution.

    Media Mostaciolli – a delicious, satisfying entrée that will help student-athletes present the best image of the team and university. Be at your best in every interview.

    Easy Cheesy Eggs Etiquette – it’s no yoke that this workshop will become very important as you progress throughout college and into your chosen career. Learn proper business and dining etiquette with an emphasis on first impressions, table and telephone manners, introductions, conversation and grooming/appearance.

    Gambling Goulash – served hot off the stove to help all student-athletes avoid getting pulled into the gambling activities invading college athletics today. Emphasis will be placed on identifying the warning signs of addictive behavior and educating the student-athletes on intervention and recovery resources that are available.


    Dinner Entrees

    Alcohol Acine de Pepe Pasta – these tiny pearls of wisdom will help educate you on the legal ramifications of alcohol use and abuse and the effect alcohol use could have on your academic and athletic career at the university.

    Hazing/Initiation Hasenpfeffer – this highly-seasoned specialty will help you to understand the legal ramifications of participating in hazing activities and the physical and emotional damage that seemingly innocent acts can cause.

    Sizzling Self Defense Skillet – this savory dish is bursting with strategies for keeping yourself safe while traveling on campus and tips on how to defend yourself.

    Diversity Dumplings – these small delectable morsels are stuffed full of activities to help you understand the diverse world we live in today. We will examine both racial and cultural diversity and sensitivity while also exploring the various beliefs and attitudes that exist.

    Sexual Ethics Stew – a man-sized helping of this thick, hearty stew will help educate you on what sexual assault, sexual harassment and sexual responsibility are.


    Desserts

    Grad School Strudel – this delicious baked desert will whet the appetite of those on your team who will be pursuing postgraduate studies.

    Resume and Cover Letter Crème Brule’ – a wonderful baked treat sprinkled with sugar designed to give you the competitive edge in the job market by helping you develop a professional resume’ and cover letter.

    Post-Eligibility Parfait – you’ll want to get a big scoop of this treat for those student-athletes who have exhausted their eligibility or have seen their athletic careers come to an end due to an injury. This workshop is designed to aid in the transition student-athletes have to make when their playing career is ending and to education them as to the career options that exist for them.

    Job Search Sorbet – a cool treat to help student-athletes develop their game plan to secure full-time employment. Information to assist the student-athletes on securing internship or other part-time employment opportunities in order to gain practical experience in their chosen field will also be provided.
